Word Sound and Power was filmed in Kingston, Jamaica in April 1979.

The film is available now on DVD for the first time!!

The film crew consisted of only three people:

Jerry Stein:   Producer, Director, Editor and Camera

Jerry Stein and Jeff Roth met in the Film Department at the San Francisco Art Institute. They shot Word Sound and Power over a three week period mostly in Kingston and edited in San Francisco, CA.

The film was shot on an Eclair 16mm camera, the sound recorded with a mono Nagra Tape Recorder. The musical sequences were recorded live through a Tascam mixer.

Jeff Roth has just finished installing his 5.1 surround mix room in Sebastopol, Sonoma County, Ca. For over 20 years he owned and operated Focused Audio, a San Francisco recording studio and audio post-production facility. He has been the sound supervisor, editor and mixer on feature films, network and cable televison shows, national ads, and various cutting edge non-linear projects. With the emergence of the "digital revolution" he has returned to picture editing, embracing Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro. This is his second DVD production this year. Jerry Stein has been actively involved in the film and music scene for over 30 years.

He and his partner Doug Wendt, ran a movie theater in San Francisco and initiated live performances, relating to the theme of the exhibited films.

He edited and produced a film on Baba Ram Dass (author, lecturer) and worked in various capacities with many people in the film business, including Linwood Dunne (inventor of the optical printer and special effects wizard), Jordan Belson, Larry Jordan, and many others.

Jerry has been involved in every aspect of Reggae Music promotion and exhibition, and is responsible for bringing such sorely missed luminaries as Joe Higgs and Hugh Mundell to the Bay Area.

He also worked as a video producer/director, taping live performances by Joe Higgs, Blue Rhythm Band, Earl Zero and more.

Jerry is an avid collector of Reggae Music both on vinyl and audio tape and is known to have one of the best collections anywhere.

He is involved with Digital Video Productions and is available for Pre Production, Production and Post Production projects.
